Stephen Pollock of Essential Energy approached my group of four (Claire Furukawa, Becca Rembold, Justin Pineda and myself) with the task of re-branding his solar energy company previously known as ASE Solar. He believes going solar is an essential choice and values transparency with clients. To him, this sets his company apart from competitors who just want to profit.

The logo is representative of solar particles and the transparency of the company. The letterforms are slightly rounded to reflect the organic nature of the sun and to provide an approachable appearance. Brand identity assets utilize the radial pattern from the logo to give the assets dimension. Branded materials include a non-profit and affiliate guide (executed in the same geometric fashion), letterheads, business cards, on-location signage, and branded company apparel.
The brand identity assets such as the letterhead and business cards utilize the radial pattern from the logo which are present in the background with a low opacity—this gives the assets dimension.
Process:
Understanding Essential Energy’s desired demographic was a crucial first step in re-designing a brand that would properly reflect the audience. After sitting down with the client and learning more about their desired audience and brand perception, we created three personas. We identified their thoughts and needs in regards to going solar. Other relevant information was shown to the right including the takeaways and touchpoints. We also created a full-circle journey map to show how these experiences affect the target audience. Combined, all these details affect the overall experience of our target audience.
Brand story written by our group along with keywords that we think embodies Essential Energy.
This group project consisted of four members: Elissa Title, Claire Furukawa, Becca Rembold, and Justin Pineda. The final project (not all pictured here) was pitched to the client as part of Chapman University's Advanced Graphic Design class, Fall 2017.
