The National Geographic Society was in need of a themed 2017 annual report. With so many species on the verge of extinction, the world would lose color. Inspired by my love for wildlife conservation and photography, I coined the theme “Life Without Color”. The annual report starts out with vibrant graphics, gradually fading to black and white to symbolize extinction. Instead of using full bleed imagery, I incorporated geometric clipping masks which reveal bits and pieces of animals so the focus becomes less on the animals and more on how the colors change. Since financials are often printed on different paper stock, the transition from colorful to black and white occurs at the start of the financials section.
