The Orange International Street Fair was founded in 1973 to celebrate the city of Orange’s 100th anniversary. This is a three day-long event typically during Labor Day week-end which features a wide variety of both foods and entertainment. Bringing together culture, food and tradition was a centerpiece of our strategy to rebrand the OISF. Our solution derived from the concept of polaroids and capturing the memories of the event. The polaroid is relevant to older generations who grew up using the physical device yet also relevant to the current generation as the previous trend is making a comeback. Capture memories, capture the world, and capture the flavors of the world.

BANNERS
Clear signage was a priority and we had to adapt our design to ensure signage was visible in low light nighttime conditions while still meeting city regulations. We created a slight polaroid border effect and used simple typography with a drop shadow (at the client's request).

The entire banner collection consisted of countries, entrances, and event sponsorship.
WAYFINDING
The wayfinding also utilized the polaroid border. At first, we implemented the “WC” icon instead of the traditional bathroom icons due to legibility concerns at small scale for the event map. Despite “WC” being an international reference to bathrooms, the feedback we received was that it was too ambiguous. All signage was to be printed on vinyl banners that would sit above the booths.
Wayfinding would be double-sided with the OISF logo and social media information on the back.
MERCHANDISE
OISF wanted merchandise to sell at the event, so we created hats and shirts in three color variations. Hats would have the main typographic logo stitched on the front and the OISF logo stitched along the side. Shirts would be a front/back design with the OISF logo on the front and the typographic logo full-scale on the back.
The client also requested a fan design. We used our logo on the front and the scattered polaroids at full-bleed on the back.
EVENT INFORMATION
The client requested both a trifold and a visitor brochure design. However, due to logistical reasons it was determined by the client that a trifold was more ideal for event information.

SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS
Since social media plays such a large role in communicating events, we thought it was important to cover a variety of platforms. We created a Snapchat campaign using geotags, an Instagram campaign with the hashtag #capturetheflavors, Twitter branding strategies, and Facebook branding strategies.
We even created a physical polaroid prop that people could take pictures with at the event. At the top, there are stickers that people can take.

THE PROCESS
Understanding the OISF’s demographic was a crucial first step in designing a brand that would properly reflect the audience. Upon visiting the fair, we created three personas. We identified their actions, feelings and needs throughout their personal experiences. Other relevant information was shown on the side bars including attendance cost, how long they spend at the fair, the weather, and both off-site and on-site touchpoints. Combined, all these details affect the overall experience of our target audience.
This group project consisted of six members: Elissa Title, Claire Furukawa, Emily Suh, Kenley Tiesmeyer, Ivana Orozco, and Nic Clar. The final project was pitched to the client as part of Chapman University's Advanced Graphic Design class, Fall 2017.
